5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 1

1. The Network of Enterprising Women will host a meeting on spring fashion trends for women, Monday, June 6, from 8:30 to 10 at the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton, 146 E. Main St. (Ashland line). Katie Kuehne Faessler of Gretta Luxe will talk about current trends, how to dress to flatter individual shapes and how to make runway styles work in your everyday life. Gretta Luxe features clothes from Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs, bags from Balenciaga and Jimmy Choo shoes. New members to NEW attend the first meeting free. It includes a healthy, buffet-style breakfast and an opportunity to network with other like-minded women. NEW is a non-profit networking group of MetroWest businesswomen. 

2. Tonight at the Hopkinton Public Library at 7, library archivist Linda Connelly, Hopkinton resident Russ Greve, Hopkinton's Steve Bartlett and Ray Gendreau will present a program on the Revolutionary War, the Civil War and Shays' Rebellion. 

3. There will be a multi-family yard sale, Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., 12 Greystone Lane and 1 Split Rock Lane (same neighborhood). Proceeds support The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. Furniture, books, clothing, toys, kitchenware, linens, home decor, a lawn mower, a Kelty Carrier, a covered bike trailer, exercise equipment and more.

4. A sobriety checkpoint will again be conducted this weekend (June 3 and 4) in Middlesex County by Mass. State Police. Exact times and places are, of course, not announced.

5. Mark your calendar. One of a dozen forums around the state on congressional redistricting will be held at Framingham State University on Saturday, June 18, in the Forum Room at the McCarthy Center, 100 State St. Residents can comment from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on redrawing the state's congressional districts.
