5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 10

1.  starts today and runs every Friday through the fall from noon to 6. Opening Day vendors include Dismas Family Farm, Hidden Acres Farm, Julie's Z Breads, Foxboro Cheese Company/Lawton's Family Farm, Red Barn Coffee Roasters, Om Sweet Om Bee Products and kids activities.

2. Barn Jam. The Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble's final fundraiser is Saturday, June 11,  at 4 p.m. at the Cultural Arts Alliance Field, 98 Hayden Rowe St. (in front of Hopkinton High). $5 students and $10 adults. Bands include Bandicoot, Splatter Cactus, Low Battery, 21A and singers Sasha Yachentko, Evelyn Oliver, Emma Howe and Evan Katz.  A last hurrah for the Class of 2011 and a great show.

3. Tonight at 7:30 and Saturday at 2 and 7:30, Enter Stage Left presents the USO Big Band Bash at the Hopkinton Senior Center, 28 Mayhew St. Tickets are $17 general admission, $13 for students, seniors and Stage Door members

4. Today is the Flag Day celebration at Center School starting in the gym at 9:15 a.m. The ceremony teaches children respect for the American Flag, the importance of freedom, and the significant contribution our veterans have made for all of us.  At the conclusion of the program, the children march around the Common. Elsewhere in the schools, the Elmwood School Book Fair continues, as does the Hopkins School Book Fair. Tonight is also the High School End of Year Dance.

5. The Hopkinton Girls Lacrosse team plays arch-rival Duxbury at 4 p.m. at the High School for the D-2 South championship. Cheer them on! Then head over to Hopkins School for the Hopkinton Education Foundation Golf Ball Drop which starts at 5:15 after being postponed by yesterday's storm. The actual drop is at 5:45. The Hopkinton High softball team is up 5-0 in its semifinal D-2 South game against Fairhaven. The game was called in the fifth inning because of lightning and will resume this afternoon at 3:30 in Taunton.
