5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 18

Tell that Doppler radar to giddyup and get that rain gone because Sheriff Sun is coming to town.

1. Sunday from  2 to 4 p.m. (right after Bark in the Park at Hopkinton State Park) the Cultural Arts Alliance, 98 Hayden Rowe St., will come alive with games, raffles, a parade, sing-alongs, crafts AND special guest appearances for its Summer Kickoff. Come dressed as a Seuss or circus character because this summer's theme is Life is a Circus!

2. Monday, the Planning Board meets at the rather unusual time of 7:20 in Town Hall, 18 Main St., Room 211, and will talk about site-plan review submission requirements and procedures. The discussion may include altering fees charged to applicants and how much it's proper to designate a Planning Board member or member of the Land Use Department to informally discuss process with applicants beforehand so they don't spend public meeting time getting to the starting line.

3. The Appropriations Committee, if I read the calendar correctly and I may not, is scheduled to meet at 7 Monday night in Room 211, the same meeting room as the Planning Board. Either it's going to be very short Appropriations meeting or there's going to be some rock-paper-scissors to see who gets the room.

4. If you'd rather go to the movies (the free movies) Monday night, at 8:30, The Blindside was rescheduled from Friday night's threat of rain and guarantee wet grass. Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her performance. Rated PG-13. Here's some dialogue: Am I a good person?  "You are the best person I know. Everything you do, you do for others.” And why is that? "You obviously get some sort of sick satisfaction out of it.”

5. The Hopkinton Historical Society, 168 Hayden Rowe St., will hold a yard sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday.
