5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 26

1. Join the Hopkinton Parent Teacher Association and stay connected to the schools over the summer. Here is the link to register online or you can mail a check made out to the HPTA to HPTA, PO Box 608, Hopkinton MA 01748. Annual membership, good through next school year, is $15 per family and $7.50 per teacher. Shelly Carbonneau at support@hptaonline.com or 508.544.9897 can help if you have questions.

2. SchoolKidz is an ordering system in cooperation with Staples that offers materials and supplies students will need for next year's classes. A portion of SchoolKidz money also goes to support Hopkinton Parent Teacher Association. The time for ordering SchoolKidz supplies is past for this year, but if you ordered, pickup is scheduled in the Hopkins School cafeteria (next month) on Wednesday, July 27, from 9 to 2, and Thursday, July 28, from 8:30 to 12:30. If you can't pick up your order then, please have a friend or neighbor pick it up for you. 3. Have a comment to make about Hopkinton Public Library expansion? The Hopkinton Permanent Building Committee, which devised the library expansion plan, meets this Monday night (tomorrow) at 7:30 in the Fire Station Training room, which can be reached through the door in back of the fire station, 73 Main St. (Upon entry, take the stairs to the right. The meeting room is straight ahead at the top of the stairs.) All Hopkinton public meetings have an opportunity for the public to comment, usually near the meeting's start. The library trustees and the PBC are waiting to hear whether or not the state approves a town request for a grant. The Library Trustees and the PBC say the grant would leave a bill for taxpayers of about $5,000 (after an expected equal amount in private donations).  Some neighbors of the library oppose the expansion, as does the . Both say the expansion is too large for the site.

5. The Senior Center, 28 Mayhew St., will be closed for a break the week of July 4 to 8. But before that, on Monday, June 27, (tomorrow) at 9 a.m., there is a bus trip to Rockport. Check the Senior Center 508.497.9730 to see if there are seats available. Tuesday, June 28, will be the final book discussion before the Senior Center Book Club takes a break until fall.
