5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 28

You don't have to love that dirty water but pipe-flushing may bring you some today.

1. Residents may notice some water discoloration starting at 10 this morning because of a fire-flow test on West Main Street near South Street. The test should last about 20 minutes but minerals inside the pipes may discolor residents' water for a short time after. Run the water in your house to flush the pipes and check the water's color before doing laundry, running the dishwasher or taking a shower.

2. Want to be Hopkinton's assistant Town Clerk? The deadline to apply is this Friday, July 1. A complete list of qualifications and instructions how to apply are here. The job became open following the resignation of former assistant Clerk Deborah Holbrook, who disagreed with the town's handling of a tie vote for library trustee in the May 16 election.

3. The Board of Assessors meet this afternoon in Town Hall, 5:15, Room 107. Here's the preliminary agenda. Selectmen meet at 6:30 in Room 215. They have a video agenda on HCAM. The Personnel Committee meets at 7 in Room 203. The Veterans Celebration Committe meets at 7 in Room 107, and if I read this correctly, they will either finish their buiness fast or be joined by the Historical Commission at 7:30.
