5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 30

1. After 11 years as Superintendent of Hopkinton Schools, today is Jack Phelan's last day. Wish him the best if you see him!

2. Snappy Dogs in Colella's parking lot (in the back on Grove Street)  is serving The Firecracker for tomorrow's Friday special. It's a grilled Snappy Dog topped with pulled pork, potato salad, baked beans, and corn bread. Snappy Dogs will be open through Saturday, then closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, returning Wednesday.

3. Greyhound Friends on Saddle Hill Road will host a conference on the welfare of racing dogs on July 30 and 31. The 5th annual International Greyhound Welfare Conference will be hosted with the American-European Greyhound Alliance. Members of the greyhound-welfare community will address issues related to racing dogs, including the decline of dog racing in the North America and its expansion in Asia and South America.

4. Middle school grades will be available Tuesday (July 5) on iPass, which is the internet Pupil Administrative Software System. (I never would have got that without peeking.) If your grades aren't as good as you'd like, tell your parents, "The dog ate my laptop."

5. No Movie on the Common scheduled for Friday night.
