5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 6

1. The Board of Registrars has called an emergency meeting for tonight (Monday) at 7 in the Town Clerk's office. The registrars will decide whether or not to approve applying for a court order to open one uncounted ballot from the May 16 election. Town Clerk Ann Click found the unopened absentee ballot in a vault where the ballots are kept. Since the election results have been tallied, a court order is needed to open it. The hope, of course, is that the uncounted ballot will break a . Both were disqualified because the tie left it impossible to choose one for a three-year term and the other for a two-year term.

2. If you're at the clerk's office for the registrars' decision, you'll miss the start of the 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee meeting, which also starts at 7 in the Fire Station training room, 73 Main St. But you'll probably be on time for the Planning Board meeting at 7:30 in Room 211, upstairs from the Town Clerk's office (18 Main St.)

3. Walk down Hopkinton Memory Lane by viewing a 90-minute movie of Paul Annunziata and Susan Marshall walking around mostly Main Street, recalling the late 1950s and early 1960s. The show will be Thursday, June 9, 1:30 at the Senior Center. In the film, Paul, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Joe Annunziata, recounts those times from a child’s point of view, what Hopkinton was like and what it was like living on Main Street, two doors down from the library.

4. The Hopkinton Democratic Committee will meet on Wednesday, June 15 at 7:30 at the Hopkinton Fire Station, 73 Main St., second floor. 5. Do you know a young person who's made a quilt? IMAGES, an annual quilt festival in Lowell, welcomes entries from quilters under age 16. The category is not juried. If a young person's quilt is entered, it WILL hang in the show Aug. 11 to 13 and be eligible for ribbons and prizes. Details and a downloadable entry form are here.
