5 Things You Need to Know Today: June 9

1. Forecasters say it may get near 100 degrees today. A severe afternoon thunderstorm with high winds is possible. Make sure babies, older people, pets and YOU stay cool.

2. The forecast doesn't sound good for the Hopkinton Education Foundation golf ball drop from a hot air balloon, scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 at Hopkins School. Pick a ball for $10 and if it's closest to the hole, you win $1,000. Rain date is Friday when temperatures are forecasted to drop significantly.

3. The forecast may be perfect to get into the Senior Center and out of the heat to see  the film a Hop, Skip and Jump down Hopkinton Memory Lane at 1:30 p.m.  See Paul Annunziata's memories of Hopkinton in the '50s and '6os.

4. Some other cool ideas - loose, lightweight clothes. Run cold water over your wrists. Break up eating into several small meals - a big lunch makes you feel hot.
