1. This week's meetings: Tuesday, May 31 Board of Selectmen Town Hall, Rm 215, Public Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m., Historical District Commission, Rm 107, 7:15, Board of Library Trustees, Rm 211, 7:30. Wednesday, Permanent Building Committee, Town Hall, Rm 211, 7:30, Council on Aging, Senior Center, 28 Mayhew St., 1 p.m. Downtown Initiative Steering Committee, 7 p.m., Fire Station, 2nd floor. Thursday, Board of Health, 7 p.m., Town Hall, Rm. 211.

2. On selectmen's agenda Tuesday night (click on the lower-left of the page for a video preview): Discussion of the resignation of assistant Town Clerk Deborah Holbrook and the tie vote for one library trustees seat, some of which developed after selectmen's agenda was submitted, will get in there somewhere. Proclamations for the Good Scout awards; selectmen's liasion assignments for the upcoming year (these determine which selectman will connect with which town board or committee to keep abreast of what's going on); consideration of the town's curbside trash collection contract for the next five years; a restructuring proposal by the Americans with Disabilities Act committee; state Sen. Karen Spilka and state Rep. Carolyn Dykema will bring selectmen up to date on state goings-on at 7:30; at 7:45 Town Clerk Ann Click will present the official Census numbers which will determine Hopkinton's voting precincts for the next 10 years. The board is also scheduled to discuss at 12-lot subdivision at 112 Hayden Rowe St. Three of the lots would meet affordable housing criteria. Selectmen will then have the opportunity to sign off on Phase 1 of Legacy Farms. Town Manager Norman Khumalo's performance review and his report to selectmen will conclude the meeting. 

3. Grilling tip from Whole Foods Seafood Team Leader "Johnny": When coooking fish outside on a grill, marinate well and keep the heat as low as possible. Cooking will only take an extra minute and it will have the best flavor. From chef Charlie: After you make your hamburger (or turkey burger) patties, give them a press in the center with your thumb. This will keep them from puffing up and shrinking in diameter.

4. The Barrett Family Wellness Center in Northborough  will hold a Monday night workshop on penmanship including the importance of developed gross and fine motor control, upper body strength, and position in space awareness.  The workshop is appropriate for occupational therapist, physical therapist, speech therapist, counselors, educators, health care professional and parents. $25. 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, 107 Otis St., Northborough.
