Boy Dies After Being Pulled From Hopkinton Lake
Police said Jorge Santiago, 9, was swimming in Lake Maspenock near Sandy Beach when something went wrong.
HOPKINTON, MA — A 9-year-old boy died Monday after he was pulled from Lake Maspenock over the weekend. Police said Jorge Santiago was swimming with a group on Sandy Beach Sunday when he went under and disappeared from view. First responders pulled the boy from the water about 10 minutes after arriving at the scene.
Santiago was transported to Milford Hospital and then airlifted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he died early Monday morning.
"Any death is hard but when you're dealing with the death of a child, especially for all of us who have children, it really weighs heavy on you," Hopkinton Police Chief Edward Lee said during a news conference. "It's a very traumatic event."
