Hopkinton Police Log, May 23 to 25

Monday, May 23

A caller reported finding a snapping turtle in her pool. She fished it out with her pool skimmer but wasn't sure what to do with it. Animal Control Officer Bill Proctor said since the house was close to wetlands, he advised the homeowner to release the 10-inch turtle back into the wetlands. "They usually don't travel too far," he said.

A mattress and box spring were in the road on Ash Street. Police called the Highway Department.

Officer Brennan, on Click-It or Ticket patrol, found a Mass. resident using an out-of-state, invalid or no license. The person was issued a criminal complaint charging driving without a license.

May 24, 1:21 a.m.

Police received a call that someone wrote obscenities on the street on South Mill Street (woodsy, east Hopkinton neighborhood heading toward Holliston). Police took photos.

8:03 a.m.

Person was operating a forklift at the corner of Gassett Road and major commuter thoroughfare West Main Street at 8 a.m. Officer Buckley asked the operator to wait until later in the morning and offered to come back and direct traffic.

Officer Brennan, again on Click-It or Ticket patrol, issued a criminal complaint charging driving without a license.

7:13 p.m.

Caller said motorcyclist was popping wheelies and driving over the double-yellow line on Chestnut Street (major road heading toward Holliston). Officer Burchard found the motorcycle parked in a driveway and talked to the operator.

10:23 p.m.

A 911 caller from  Overlook Road (north of town, west of Hopkinton State Park) reported smoke alarms going off in the house. Police notified the fire department.

Driver called station to say she almost hit a skateboarder in the middle of the street in front of Hopkinton High School shortly after 11 p.m. Officer Higgins checked but didn't find the skateboarder.

Wednesday, May 25, 5:40 a.m.

Winter Street (west side of town, Whitehall Reservoir area) caller told police a small bag of trash and a "somewhat threatening note that appears to be racially motivated" was dumped in the yard. Officer Buckley investigated.

8:10 a.m.

Caller reported a hit and run. A tractor-trailer on Wood Street took the corner heading west onto West Main Street too tight, knocking down a street sign and possibly scraping the traffic light. Officer Griffin did not find the truck, which the caller said had an orange cab and white trailer. The truck's license plate number did not come back. Mass. State Police were advised. The Hopkinton Highway Department was also notified the sign was down.

4:45 p.m.

A Frankland Road (northeast side of town) caller said a dirtbiker was riding on his front lawn and got argumentative when asked to stop. When Officer O'Neill arrived, the dirtbike was gone.

5:45 p.m.

A walk-in reported harassing text messages from an ex-boyfriend. Sgt. vanRaalten took a report.
