Household Hazardous Waste Day July 23

The town is collecting hazardous chemicals from residents on Saturday, July 23 from 8 in the morning to 1 in the afternoon at the DPW Garage, 83 Wood St. This is a free service.

There is a limit of 25 pounds and one trip per household.

Bring  your proof of residency - a driver's license is fine - and have the items preferably stored in sealed original containers.

Please stay in your vehicle when you get to the garage.

Among items NOT accepted are latex paint, which you can uncover, allow to dry, and dispose of in your trash.

NO ammunition, fireworks, explosives, prescription medications or syringes. Contact the Hopkinton Police at 508-497-3401.

NO radioactive material or PCBs (Polychlorinated biphenyls). Contact the Hopkinton Fire Department at 508-497-2326. 

NO infectious, biological or medical waste. You may contact a fee-based private disposal company. Many are available on the web and will come to your house. You can also contact the Board of Health at 508-497-9725 for suggestions.

NO batteries, asbestos, mercury thermostats or thermometers, computers or electronics. These items can be disposed of for a fee by private companies. Many stores that sell batteries also recycle them. Call first.

NO gas cylinders. Most companies that sell compressed gases accept unusable containers for a fee.
