Police News: Lights On in Empty House

Officer Higgins checked and spoke with a sub-contractor doing line work for Verizon on Hayden Rowe Street.

1:30 a.m. - A Benson Road resident reported a suspicious vehicle in his neighborhood for the second time. Officer Higgins told the resident that the vehicle belongs to a Verizon sub-contractor doing line monitoring.

4:22 - A Smith Road resident reported she might have an intruder in her home. Officers Higgins and Moran checked and found all to be OK.

7:45 - A Wood Street caller said some equipment was stolen overnight. Officer McNeil investigated.

10:41 - A Verizon worker on North Mill Street reported a theft.

1:20 p.m. - A Hayden Rowe Street caller reported that some wires were down after being clipped by a work truck. Officer Burchard investigated and Verizon was notified.

8:33 - A West Main Street caller said a muffler was in the middle of the road. Officer O'Neil removed it.

9:05 p.m. - A West Main Street resident was concerned because all the lights were on in a recently built house. Officer O'Neil and Sgt. Sutton checked and all was secure.

9:19 - A business owner said she had just got a call on her cell phone from her West Main Street office phone but no one should have been in the business at that hour. Officers O'Neil, Booth and Sgt. Sutton checked. They found the front door to the business open but the inner door secure. They closed and locked the front door.

10:26 - Resident reported she could hear what sounded like power-lines arching on Grove Street. Officer Booth found the source of the sound to be a bug zapper.
