Police News: Road Woes

Just past midnight, Wednesday, June 29

Officer Moran found an open gate at the Fruit Street athletic fields. He checked the area, found all OK, and locked the gate.

2:20 a.m. – A caller said a vehicle with New York plates was parked in front of his house for 40 minutes. When the homeowner approached the car, the driver drove away. Officer Campbell checked the area and could not find the person. The care was a rental and Enterprise provided contact information for the renter.

2:52 – Officer Campbell checked a car parked behind Cornell’s.

7:53 a.m. – A West Main Street caller said a disabled van was tying up traffic. Officer Buckley responded and found a company unloading materials. He had the workers move the van off the road to continue unloading.

8:29 – Officer McNeil reported a crew on Pleasant Street doing roadwork without a detail officer. Officer O’Brien responded and had the project shut down until a detail officer arrived.

9:07 – A caller said a road crew on Wood Street was impeding traffic. Officer Buckley responded and the crew moved some work materials to better allow traffic to get by.

10:58 – A Walcott Valley Drive resident reported that his car was vandalized overnight.

12:45 p.m. – A Sadie Lane resident reported a suspicious business vehicle parked in a neighbor’s driveway. Officer Shane spoke to the business owner and everything was OK.

5:06 - A caller reported a minor crash on Saddle Hill Road. No personal injuries. Officer McNeil responded and took a report.

6:21 – A Pleasant Street caller said he had no water service. He said it was probably because a road crew had been working outside his house during  the day. Officer Brooks notified the on-call Water Department person.

8:02 – Caller said her vehicle was damaged on Wood Street driving through the construction area. Officer O’Neil took her information for insurance purposes and notified the DPW. Officer Brooks checked and confirmed the road was torn up. He reported that all the sewer caps and hazards were spray painted.
