What's Cool at the Hopkinton Library

The Hopkinton Public Library recommends Jo Nesbo’s new mystery The Snowman. The Snowman is Nesbo’s latest about Norwegian alcoholic police investigator Harry Hole going nearly insane trying to catch a serial killer whom Harry’s superiors in Oslo don’t even believe exists. Translated from Norwegian by Don Bartlett. Reviewer Bruce Tierney calls Hole a most believably flawed and imperfect protagonist and says Nesbo’s latest “is a chilling Scandinavian journey not to be missed.”

For non-fiction, check out SEAL Team Six. Find out what it's like to train for and serve as the most elite of the elite. Howard Wasdin was the top sniper on the team that in a later incarnation found and killed Osama bin Laden. Wasdin and co-author Stephen Templin take readers through Wasdin's selection and service on the top U.S. team in counterterrorism, hostage rescue, and counterinsurgency. His story includes how he received severe injuries in the Battle of Mogadishu, a lopsided battle in which outnumbered U.S. forces, surrounded by Somali warlords, suffered 18 dead and 73 injured. A different perspective on that battle was recounted in the book and movie Black Hawk Down.

The library is also having a book sale Saturday (June 11) from 10 to 4 and Sunday from 11 to 2. Friends of the Library will be admitted on Saturday at 9. You can become a Friend for $10, $20 for a family or $5 for seniors and students. Join the Friends while you're at the sale!

Hop, Skip and Jump down Hopkinton Memory Lane will be at the Hopkinton Senior Center Thursday (June 9) at 1:30 p.m. Paul Annunziata made the 90-minute film with the library's Susna Marshall. Learn about Hopkinton in the '50s and '60s from Paul's childhood perspective.
