JP Moms Review the New Tot Lot on Brewer/Burroughs

The beloved old tot lot got a big makeover from the city. So, what do JP moms think of the result?

Each week the JP Patch Moms Council dicusses a parenting topic. This week: Do you like the newly renovated Brewer/Burroughs Tot Lot? The lot had long been a neighborhood favorite, despite of its need for an update.

: If you're looking to bring your younger child, they'll have plenty of children to interact with.

I took my sons to the Brewer/Burroughs Tot Lot this week. Before it was closed for renovations, I used to take them there about three times per year. Unfortunately, other than the drums and the four-way seesaw, their just wasn't much for my seven year olds.  (And my son's reaction when he saw the seesaw?  "It got shorter!"  It didn't.)

One of them also liked the sandbox, but with so many smaller children also playing in it, that didn't feel safe.  But the good news is, there were A LOT of small children there, so if you're looking to bring your younger child, they'll have plenty of children to interact with.

As for us, we'll stick to the Clarendon Street Playground and Tadpole Playground.

: Our 2.5 year old daughter hasn't stopped asking to go back. She loves it.

Before the Brewer Street tot lot was renovated, we had only been there a couple of times. Our daughter was too small for the structures when it was warm enough to spend some time there so we just assumed it wouldn't be a favorite post-renovation too.

We were wrong.

We brought our now 2.5 year old daughter there when it first re-opened and she hasn't stopped asking to go back. She loves it. She is the perfect size for everything and the best part is that it is so centrally located for everyone, that she sees all her friends there every time we go. She loves the structures, the toys, the sandbox, and the swings. To her, everything there is perfect.
The city did a great job with the renovation. We enjoyed some City Feed breakfast sandwiches and coffee with our daughter's friend's parents at the picnic table this weekend while the children played. I think we will be spending a lot more time there.
