Longtime Owner of The Galway House Dies

Robert “Bobby” DeFranco, the longtime owner of a classic Jamaica Plain restaurant, died this weekend.

DeFranco, from Quincy and formerly from Roxbury, owned the Galway House restaurant for over 30 years, retiring in 2010, according to his obituary.

Several people commented on a post on the Galway House’s Facebook page calling DeFranco a local legend.

From his obituary: "He will be remembered as feisty, charismatic, and above all else, tenacious."

Visiting hours for DeFranco will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 at Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy.

There will be a funeral service for DeFranco at Keohane beginning at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9. followed by funeral mass at St. Anne’s Church, Quincy at 10 a.m.
