Michael John Sergei of JP Dies at Age 89
Retired Boston Police officer and WWII Army veteran grew up in the West End and spent most of his life in JP.
Michael John Sergei of Jamaica Plain died Tuesday, February 8 at Norwood Hospital. Mr. Sergei leaves his wife Gertrude (Davis) Sergei, his three children, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also leaves one of brothers and one of his sisters.
Mr. Sergei was born in Maynard in 1921, the son of the late Lucas and Kate (Yougeinis) Sergei. He was a graduate of Boston Trade School and attended Wentworth Institute in Boston. During WWII, Mr. Sergei proudly served his country in United States Army. In 1948 he and his wife Gertude were married at Our Lady of Ostrobrama Church in Boston.
Mr. Sergei was a patrolman and head clerk at Boston Police Department’s Station 4 until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the West End Club, Boston Police Softball Team, Boston Police Bowling League, and the Hyde Park Businessmen’s Bowling League.

Mr. Sergei was the beloved husband of Gertrude (Davis) Sergei. He was the loving father of Michael E. Sergei, and his wife Linda, of Franconia, NH; Richard J. Sergei, and his wife Maureen, of Foxborough; and Kathleen Dunn, and her husband Arthur, of Hanover. Mr. Sergei was the devoted grandfather of Brian, Daniel, Patrick, Christopher, and Noel Sergei. He was also the devoted great grandfather of Emma and Caitlyn Sergei. Mr. Sergei was the brother of John Sergei of Hyde Park, Helen Brown of Billerica and the late Charles, Joseph, and Mary Sergei.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours from 4-7 pm on Friday, February 11, at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home in Foxborough.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 am at St. Mary's Church on Carpenter Street in Foxborough. Interment with U.S. Army Honors to follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan.
En lieu of flowers donations in Mr. Sergei’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
