Roslindale Community Center Increases Day Care Capacity By 13 Children
The center is in Roslindale Square, close to JP.

The BCYF Roslindale Community Center has recently been granted an increase in its day care license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. As a result of this, the community center will expand their after school capacity to serve more children from Roslindale and surrounding communities.
The day care center is operated by the Roslindale Community School Council, Inc. a non-profit corporation in residence at the community center.
According to Dennis Kirkpatrick, a member of the Council’s Board of Directors, this is a major achievement.
“The process began in 2010 with an application to the State. This was followed by checking the certifications of our staff, program curriculum, and various on-site physical inspections. Our staff is to be commended in bringing about this improvement,” Kirkpatrick said.
The increase will allow the center to accommodate an additional “bakers dozen” or thirteen more children on top of those they already service.
The Roslindale Community Center’s after school program is broken into two age-appropriate categories. The first is for the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten set (K1 & K2 age ranges) and a second for ages 6 to 12 years (Grades 1 to 6). The programs operate from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM weekdays when school is
in session and include age-appropriate activities. The older group also receives homework assistance, and access to the center’s 14 station computer lab. Recently a music enrichment program has also been offered.
In the morning hours, the Roslindale Community Center also offers “Tiny Tots,” a pre-kindergarten school for ages 3.9 years to 5.9 years. The program operates half day programs from 8:00 AM to 12 Noon during the school year, and is available as a two, three, or five day program depending on parent’s choice. Children can join the program at anytime provided they have reached the minimum age requirements.
During the school vacation weeks in December, February, and April, the Roslindale Community Center also offers a full-day program for children of working parents. These programs operate from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and include structured activities and educational enrichments. An advance application process is involved and parents must provide a bagged lunch.
All programs are offered at competitive rates, and are supervised by Early Education (EEC) certified staff.
The BCYF Archdale Community Center, which is a part of the Roslindale cluster of community centers, also offers after school and vacation week programming.
The Roslindale Community Centers are part of 38 community centers operated by Boston Centers for Youth & Families (BCYF) in Boston and which partner with community based non-profit advisory boards that assist with center activities, programming, fund raising, and more.
