Temporary Closure of Forest Hills Street at Arborway

Arborway, Casey Overpass, Forest Hills, MassDOT, MBTA

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) today announced that beginning on Monday, July 31, and continuing through the next three weeks, Forest Hills Street will be closed where the street meets the westbound Arborway. There will be no access to the Arborway from Forest Hills Street, or vice versa, for the duration, but access to homes on the block of Forest Hills Street between Cemetery Road and the Arborway will be maintained via Cemetery Road and the section of Forest Hills Street to the north of the work area.

The closure of Forest Hills Street where it meets the westbound Arborway is necessary for total reconstruction and extension of lower Forest Hills Street, bringing it into alignment with the westbound Arborway. This is the final stage of a several year project that entailed the removal of the structurally deficient William J. Casey Overpass, which formerly carried the Arborway over Washington Street, South Street, and the MBTA’s Orange Line and commuter rail, and its replacement with surface roads, bicycle facilities, reclaimed public green space.

The MBTA Forest Hills Station is also being significantly upgraded as part of the project. For more information on this MassDOT project, please visit the Casey Arborway Project webpage at http://www.massdot.state.ma.us/caseyarborway/Home.aspx.
