Lexington Holds 3rd Annual MLK Day of Service
Lexington commemorates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 18 with dialogue, a unity walk, performances and community service.
The Town of Lexington will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a Day of Service, honoring Dr. King’s legacy by committing our community to taking part in assisting those less fortunate. Our objective is to engage and mobilize young people and adults to participate in events and activities to serve others, united in philanthropy .
Our target this year is to serve 1,800+ people through 400+ volunteers.

- 9-10:30 a.m. at Grace Chapel – Lexington Interfaith Clergy Association (LICA) sponsors Panel Discussion and Community Dialogue on Race. Racially-diverse panel discusses experiences to support our success and motivate a community dialogue on how to continuously work together to improve our race relations.
- 11 a.m. - Unity Walk from the Lexington Battle Green to Cary Hall.
- 11:30 a.m. at Cary Hall - Brief performances by Lexington literary performer Regie O’Hare Gibson and SNAP Sing Along Chorus.

Once adjourned from Cary Memorial Hall, volunteer activities throughout Lexington, Waltham and Boston (Brighton) will begin as follow
- Charitable Donation Drop-offs, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Grace Chapel, 59 Worthern Road, Lexington. Donate food, books, toiletries, clothing for needy families to be distributed to Lexington Food Pantry, Room to Grow, COMPASS For Kids, and More Than Words. Donations will be dropped off at Grace Chapel for delivery to service organizations.
- Cradles to Crayons, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at 155 North Beacon Street, Brighton, MA AND 12 a.m.-2 p.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 55 Coolidge Ave., Lexington. Organize, distribute, clean/prep goods for reaching families in need in Boston area (Brighton warehouse) and Lexington (Pilgrim Church).
- Lunch with Seniors, 12-2 p.m. at Lexington Villages (Greeley, Vynebrooke, Countryside). Volunteers will serve lunch and sit with seniors to reflect on the legacy of Dr. King.
- YMCA Community Day, 1-3:30 p.m. at Waltham YMCA, 725 Lexington St, Waltham. Program of activities for children and adults (games, sports, reading, swimming, etc.) including lunch. Under privileged families in Waltham and Bedford hotels/shelters invited to participate.
- Serving Seniors at Waltham Crossing, 1-3 p.m., 126 Smith St. Waltham. Serve the senior population of this community.
- Card-Making activity, 1-4 p.m. at Lexington Montessori School, 130 Pleasant St. Hands on crafts activity to create Valentine’s Cards for Veterans, hospitalized children, and other underserved community members.
