Academic Achievers: More Lexington College Students Earn Diplomas, Honors

Marina Musicus of Lexington, has earned a degree in Prosthetics & Orthotics from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

Thomas Osborn of Lexington graduated from Saint Joseph's College of Maine with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, held its 207th Commencement exercises Saturday, May 26, 2012. The following Bowdoin College graduates are from Lexington: Sienna Kurland graduated from Bowdoin, majoring in Biology and French and minoring in Chemistry, Mikel McCavana graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Bowdoin, majoring in English and minoring in Music, and Nyle Usmani, graduated from Bowdoin, majoring in Government and Legal Studies and minoring in Sociology.

At the University of Rhode Island's 126th Commencement on Saturday and Sunday, May 19-20, 2012, almost 3,000 undergraduate and 738 graduate students became the University's newest alumni.

The following Lexington residents were among the students who received their undergraduate or graduate degrees: James A. Holton received a BA degree in Biology, and Puneet Gupta received a MS degree in Chemistry

Merrimack College held its 62nd Commencement Exercises on May 20 where 553 students received undergraduate degrees in Business Administration, Education, Liberal Arts, and Science & Engineering, and an additional 46 graduated with Master of Education degrees. Here are the Lexington students s who graduated from Merrimack College on May 20: Jaclyn Harvell, graduating cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and Sociology, Michael Kent, graduating with a Bachhelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Bradley Johnston, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, and David Robinson, graduating with a Bachhelor of Science degree in Business Administration. 

A total of 585 bachelor degrees and 43 master's degrees were awarded at the 186th Commencement ceremonies held on Trinity's historic quadrangle. The following Lexington students graduated from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, on Sunday, May 20, 2012: Denise Lee, majoring in the following subject/s: Biology, and Nina Wright, majoring in the following subject/s: American Studies. 

Three Wellesley College graduates from Lexington were awarded Senior Prizes at the College's commencement ceremony on Friday, May 25. A total of 66 senior prizes were awarded to this year's graduating class of over 600. Mika Edgerly, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Economics, received two awards, the The Natalie Bolton Faculty Prize in Econometrics, which is awarded for an outstanding paper in economics as designated by the faculty, and The Maria Luisa Bombai Prize in Spanish, which is awarded each year in memory of the great Chilean novelist to a student who has distinguished herself in the field of Latin American literature. Anisha Vachani, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, received The Natalie Bolton Faculty Prize in Economics, which is awarded for an outstanding paper in economics as designated by the faculty. Sohini Sarah Pillai, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre Studies and South Asian Studies, was awarded the The Wellesley College Theatre Award, which is awarded to the graduating student whom the faculty of the theatre department regards as having made a truly outstanding contribution to the life and work of both the department and the Wellesley College theatre production activities. Pillai is also a 2012 Fulbright Scholar; she will travel to India to conduct research on how the performing arts in India, specifically, different theatrical versions of the ancient epic poem The Ramayana, can promote positive messages of pluralism and harmony.

David DiSilva, a resident of Lexington, was among over 900 students from Providence College who received undergraduate degrees during the College's Ninety-Fourth Commencement Exercises held on Sunday, May 20, 2012. DiSilva received a bachelor's degree in Management.

The following local students were selected for membership in the Periclean Honors Forum, which works to strengthen intellectual life at Skidmore and especially to encourage the academic aspirations of highly motivated and talented students. Formal membership in is based on academic accomplishment. Allison Boxer, a member of the Class of 2015. She is the daughter of Stephen and Judy Boxer of Lexington. Olivia Burger, a member of the Class of 2015. She is the daughter of Todd and Deborah Burger of Lexington.

The Trinity College Chapel served as the site for the school's 62nd annual Honors Day Ceremony, where members of the Trinity community were cited for their scholarly and community-oriented achievements. The honorees were presented with a broad array of prizes and awards for their contributions and accomplishments over their years at Trinity. Sam Burck of Lexington, MA, Class of 2012, won The Albert J. Howard, Jr. Prize, awarded to a member of the junior class who has done outstanding work in physics. The prize was established in 2004 by friends and colleagues of the late The Travelers Companies Foundation Senior Research Prize, awarded to student(s) whose senior research project(s) in the field of computer science and engineering has been deemed the most outstanding by an independent board chosen from Trinity faculty and The Travelers staff.

The following Lexington students have achieved Dean's Honors, a recognition for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.66, or Dean's High Honors, a recognition for students who have earned a grade point average of at least 3.78, for the 2012 spring semester at Connecticut College: Christina Finch, class of 2012, James Finucane, class of 2013, Gabriella Gentile, class of 2013, Diana Hines, class of 2015, Lindsay Keegan, class of 2013, Daniel Smoot, class of 2013, and Maia Taft, class of 2013.
