📰 News we're reading

1. Resident appeal delays LHS building project and adds millions to cost (lexobserver.org) — Lexington's new high school project is on hold while MassDEP reviews an appeal from 12 residents over potential wetland impacts, a pause that could add $1–$5 million or more to costs. Depending on how long the review takes, taxpayers may face higher expenses, delayed fields, and a possible pushback of the school's planned 2029 opening.

2. Real Estate Listings Week of August 21, 2026 (lexobserver.org) — Several Lexington homes just changed hands this month, with recent sales ranging from about $1 million to $2.8 million on streets including Reed, Burnham, Ellis, Spring, Meriam, and Pearl. These fresh closings offer a snapshot of current prices and demand across multiple Lexington neighborhoods.

3. Massachusetts 250 gives Lexington Minute Man a Boston takeover (lexobserver.org) — A longtime Lexington resident and Lexington Minute Man, Bruce Leader, unexpectedly found himself featured on giant banners in Boston's Seaport and Silver Line station, depicting his Paul Revere reenactment. He describes how his meticulously authentic costume, horse, and dedication to Revolutionary War history help keep Lexington's historic figures vivid for today's residents and Red Sox fans alike.

4. US and Japan Complete Space Surveillance Network With Second Sensor on Navigation Satellite (webpronews.com) — Lexington plays a quiet but important role in a new U.S.–Japan space surveillance partnership, with MIT's Lincoln Laboratory in town designing the sensors now riding on Japanese navigation satellites. These payloads will help track objects in geosynchronous orbit over the Indo-Pacific, feeding data into the U.S. Space Surveillance Network. Officials say the collaboration boosts deterrence and resilience without launching dedicated U.S. satellites.
