Appalachia comes to Lexington

New England Light Opera performs in Lexington, MA on May 1st at 3:00 pm.

LEXINGTON, MA – The haunting song of the Cherokee flute takes us deep into the mountains and valleys of Appalachia as we hear the sound of Appalachian Voices. New England Light Opera, a professional vocal group performing since 2003, brings us on this eclectic journey through art song, sacred song, and folk songs from across Appalachia. The show will be performed by NELO Artistic Director Mark Morgan, sopranos Kaja Fickes and Jeanne Lucas, pianist Sarah Koonce, and flautist Elke Jahns. The show is part of the Hancock Concert Series of Hancock Church.

New England Light Opera has performed a wide range of vocal literature in over 25 towns around eastern Massachusetts since 2003. The artists in this concert are all professional musicians who have performed with many of the area’s finest musical organizations over the years. "This is a terrific cast and it will be fun to watch them go from singing everything from art music to some bluegrass all on the same night, "says Morgan, "it's not too often you get to sing across that range of styles in a single evening."

The concert will take place at Hancock Church on May 1st at 3:00 pm, 1912 Massachusetts Ave in Lexington. Admission is by suggested donation of $10-$25 at the door. The church is handicap accessible and ample free parking is available. Additional performances are scheduled for Melrose and Topsfield.
