Beware Lexington...the Pirates are coming!

40 students present Pirates of Penzance musical on April 30, May 1 and May 2 at LCA Cross Center for Performing Arts

The Pirates of Penzance is a witty and charming operetta by the British duo, Gilbert & Sullivan.

These are daft pirates with soft hearts who let their captives go if the captive reveals himself to be an orphan. A Major General pretends he is an orphan to prevent these pirates from forcibly marrying his beautiful daughters, but then has Major regrets. Some cowardly cops are brought on the scene of a crime-in-the-making to dance us all to a happy, if goofy, end!

More than 40 upper school students from the towns of Lexington, Arlington, Woburn, and Winchester are rehearsing the original 1879 version of the score under the direction of Mr. Greco with vocal direction by Mrs. Bulger, choreographic assistance by Mr. Lease, original costumes by Mrs. Sparrow, and sound design by Mr. Wallace. A live orchestra conducted by Mr. Hawkins will feature LCA student musicians side-by-side with professional players, including Mrs. Shim and Mrs. Oliver. Mr. VanderBrug is designing a pirate ship for the Cross Center stage, and our student tech team is dreaming up some surprises. We’re going all out for the Cross Center’s first ever musical.
