Bird Walk and Veggie Sushi & Fresh Roll Workshop

Join Wright-Locke Farm to learn about healthy food and nature (Winchester, MA)

Wright-Locke Farm's education programs for adults and teens are a great way to learn practical skills related to healthy living, small-scale agriculture, and the wonders of nature. Consider attending its upcoming Spring Bird Watching Walk with Andrea Golden this Saturday, May 14 from 8 - 10am at the Farm (78 Ridge Street, Winchester, MA). May is peak season for migrant songbirds, traveling from their winter range (South America, Central America, Mexico) to New England and beyond. This introductory bird watching walk will focus on how to identify birds, where to look for them, and what types of birds one can expect to see in this region. The program is open to kids ages 8 and up with an attending adult, and will include exploration of the main farmstead as well as the Locke Farm and Whipple Hill Conservation areas abutting the Farm.

Next week the Farm will host its first cooking workshop of the season with local homesteader and host Kimi Ceridon. Her Vegetable Sushi and Fresh Roll Workshop on Tuesday, May 17 from 6 - 8pm at Saint Eulalia's Parish kitchen (50 Ridge Street, Winchester, MA) will teach participants where to get quality sushi and fresh roll ingredients, how to prepare homemade rolls inspired by local and seasonal vegetables, and how to make delicious dipping sauces to serve with the rolls. The class will conclude with a tasting of the recipes taught during the workshop. This class is great for anyone with a CSA share who has difficultly using up all their items or anyone looking for a fun and creative way to feature more raw local veggies in their meals. Vegetable sushi and fresh rolls are also a versatile and convenient food item to serve at barbecues and other outdoor gatherings, so get inspired before the summer season arrives!
