Board of Selectmen Meeting News and Notes
A look at the majority of decisions made by the Board of Selectmen on July 12.
The Lexington Board of Selectmen met on July 12 at 7:30 p.m. Here is a breakdown of votes and decisions made during the meeting.
- The Board publicly welcomed Colonel Stacy Yike the new commander of Hanscom Air Force Base and wished for continued good interaction between the base and the town.
- The Town Manager Carl Valente noted that earlier in the day, there was a two-alarm fire on Emerson Street and two of Lexington's firefighters were sent to the hospital for heat exhaustion after successfully putting out the fire.
- Ruyi Restaurant was unanimously granted the transfer of a license on the property formerly occupied by the Tepenyaki Restauraunt.
- The Board unanimously approved the placement of four new stop signs along the following streets: at Patriot and Oakland, at Meriam, at Winn and Bow, and at Dewey and Gould.
- The Board took under advisement a proposal from the Tree Committee to amend the Tree Bylaw enacted in 2001 so that it will cover also cover decisions made by the Planning Board.
- Several reserve fund transfers, mainly dealing with snow removal issues, were unanimously approved by the Board.
- The Board took under advisement a request made by the Friends of the Landlocked Forest that they invite the Burlington Board of Selectmen to a dedication ceremony at the forest where the group is dedicating a newly created kiosk.
- The Board unanimously approved the sending a letter of commendation to Ione Garing, who recently moved to upstate New York, for all her volunteer work with the Leauge of Women Voters, the Friends of Carey Memorial Library and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
- The Board unanimously approved the appointments and reappointments of Bridget Stainey to the Design Advisory Committee, Barbara Feldmen to the Historic Districs Commision, and Barbara Hughie and Wendall Kelso to the Permanent Building Committee.
- With two members abstaining, the Board voted 3-0 to approve Selectman Peter Kelly as a member of the Munroe Center for the Arts Board. Kelly abstained due to the issue concering himself, and Selectman George Burnell abstained due to his concerns about their being a selectmen on the Munore Board due to possible conflicts of interest.
- The Board unanimously approved four coin-operated licenses for Aloft Lexington.
- The Board voted against voiding an ambulance fee incurred involving a minor. The Board felt it best the family go to small claims court to seek their money back because there was simply no way for them to properly understand or investigate the issue any further than the original report.
