MetWinds Band Concert: Inspiraciones españolas (Spanish Inspirations)

Event Details

Scottish Rite Masonic Museum & Library, 33 Marrett Rd, Lexington, MA, 02421

MetWinds continues its 55th season with a concert on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 3:00 PM, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Museum, 33 Marrett Road, Lexington, MA. A free pre-concert lecture will be held at 2:30 PM inside the concert hall.

Join the Metropolitan Wind Symphony for a vibrant musical journey celebrating the rich traditions of Spain and Latin America. This dynamic program explores a diverse landscape of rhythms and cultures, featuring the flamenco-inspired energy of Alfred Reed’s El Camino Real, Julie Giroux’s eclectic La Mezquita de Cordoba, and the festive pageantry of James Clifton Williams’ classic Symphonic Dance No. 3, “Fiesta.” The performance also highlights Frank Ticheli's homage to the American Southwest in San Antonio Dances, explores Argentine tango in Michael Gandolfi’s Vientos y Tangos, and features the exciting world premiere of Snow Mosaics by Aaron Israel Levin.

Brian Cardany, Guest Conductor is the Director of Bands at the University of Rhode Island, where he conducts the Wind Ensemble and Concert Band, directs the athletic bands, and teaches instrumental conducting. He also serves as coordinator for both the Southern New England Honor Band and URI Commencement music activities, and is the conductor for the URI Alumni Wind Ensemble. His efforts to promote new music and works of artistic merit has included a presentation at the Midwest Clinic, several contributions to the Teaching Music Through Performance series (GIA Publications) and regular involvement with commissions and the recording of new works. As an avid supporter of life-long music making, Dr. Cardany also serves as conductor for four Rhode Island community ensembles, including The American Band, the Ocean State Pops Orchestra, the South County Chamber Orchestra, and the South Kingstown Community String Orchestra.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $5 for students, and free for children under 5. They are available at the door or online at: eventbrite.com/e/1708703350719
