CALex joins 2019 Lexington Patriots Day Parade

A second Chinese American civic organization joins annual Patriots Day parade in Lexington history

April 15 2019, CALex (Chinese Americans of Lexington) joins the annual Patriots Day parade for first time. CALex had opportunity to attend the parade last year. However, due to severe storm, the parade was forced to cancel in 2018.

This year parade also had bad weather at the beginning of the day. Fortunately mother nature turned a little better just right into the parade hours. CALex members had been preparing for the parade for a few weeks. In order to better management of the parade, the organizer sets up wechat group (Chinese social media) to form a team of volunteers involving many activities: designing the parade style, costumes, ordering CALex signs and logos, assigning team leaders, setting up communication coordinators etc.

Kids form the major parade force at CALex team. They represent the future of Chinese Americans in Lexington: Bright, smart and good spirit. Most of them were wearing colorful school sports uniforms and some parents behind them. The kids took turn to carry the CALex flags in the front. The audiences gave them big loud applause when the CALex team passing through the Mass Ave. As first time team, CALex definitely impressed the town and received good words from Parade organizer.
