Crooker Wins Jury's Vote, New Call to Artists
Gallery 529 of Littleton Invites you to Come Visit Our New Juried Show, "Discovery." Learn about our Upcoming Show, "Memories."

Have you visited our new juried show “Discovery” yet? The show is meant to depict a sense of wonderment or awe at the mysteries of life, the universe, and the human spirit. The show includes up-cycled sculpture, stained glass, collages, photography, charcoal drawings, and paintings – something for everyone! As always, Gallery 529 remains free and open to the public Tuesday through Sunday.
The show will be on exhibit through September. We are also asking for the public’s help by voting for its favorite piece of art work, for which the winner will also receive a $75 prize. For a peek at the art work included, click here.
The show was juried by noted artist and art historian Christopher Volpe, who chose the work by Robert Crooker, Descend, as Best of Show.

“For me, a train of thought was started in which the limited palette, deep darks, and atmospheric light suggested a sort of dichotomy between ignorance and enlightenment (apropos of the subject, which is the exploration of a hidden realm). In this reading, the tiny figure rappelling (or dangling) in the ropes can stand for the human effort to grapple with life’s mysteries. As the abstract design resolves to the illustrative orientation, the figure imparts a satisfying sense of scale to the tableau. Given the idea that the figure is exploring some primal, untouched and unknown chasm, the work, incidentally yet admirably, encapsulates the show’s theme of “discovery”.
If you are an artist, our next juried show is Memories. The Gallery will accept electronic entries for that show starting September 1.
