 Alterations, Textures and Slips Workshop for the Beginner to Advanced with Tim Scull

Join nationally renowned ceramic artist , Tim Scull, in this exciting and eclectic workshop focusing on multiple uses of naturally pigmented clays and colored slips for variance in surface treatment. Tim is one of the few ceramic artists displaying in the national juried show circuit who displays a wide variety of unique, one of a kind vessels including Saggar firing, Raku firing, Smoke firing and Wood firing. With in his body of work, the majority of  his wares are either textured, decorated, and /or polished with dry natural clays or liquid slips. Clays used for texturing and decorating will include Helmer, Newman's Red, Red art, Ball clay, Calvert, as well as slips colored with high fire stains, flashing slips, crackle slips, and Terra Sigulatta. The first half of the workshop will primarily concentrate on wheel throwing techniques for the" Domi shape" ( round mother earth form). Alterations and texturing techniques on this form will be covered. Some of these techniques are useful for the hand builder as well. The second half of the workshop will entail decorative uses of slips for numerous different firing techniques. Extensive dialogue on the application of slips:  when, why, where and how, in relationship  to specific firing techniques.

 A Special treat on Saturday, January 21, from 5 to 7pm begins with a Pot Luck Supper and then join in a free discussion "Clay Talk" and  casual evening presentation by nationally renowned ceramic artist Tim Scull.  Tim will discuss cultural and historic genres that have influenced the development  of his ceramic vessels  over the past 25 years.  This will be a wonderful evening of engaging discussion and detail.   So bring a warm dish of food and join us clay enthusiasts . Tim will have a display of work available for purchase.
