Backyard Goats at Lexington Farmers Market

You've heard about backyard birds, now come hear about Backyard Goats for Your Urban Farmyard.

Goats are an excellent livestock animal for small urban backyards.  Besides providing manure for your garden and milk for your family, they are gentle and loving animals, excellent with young children and other pets. Their requirements for shelter, food, and exercise are well within reach of many families who would like to enhance their gardens, have a supply of fresh and healthy milk, and make cheese and/or yogurt.

Halé Sofia Schatz, local author of If the Buddha Came to Dinner, milks her own Nigerian goats and makes cheeses and yogurt for her family.  Her organic gardens have been thriving since the goats have arrived in her urban farmyard.
