Last Hazardous Waste Day of 2010

Minuteman Hazardous Waste Site

Below is a list of hazardous waste products. Items 1-5 can be disposed at the Minutemen Household Hazardous Waste site, 60 Hartwell Ave, Lexington and ONLY on designated days (see schedule above). For additional information, you can download the 2010 Household Hazardous Waste Guide here.

1. Pesticides and Herbicides:
Insecticides, rat poisons, slug bait, mothballs, weed killers, flea, and roach powders. Insect repellent.

2. Paints, Solvents and sealers:
Oil based paints and stains, paint thinners and strippers, varnishes, shellacs and lacquers, metal polishes, aerosols. Do not bring latex (water-based) paint. Dry out and put in regular trash.

3. Auto Care Products:
Engine Cleaners, degreasers, tar remover, used oil, gas and gas mixtures, antifreeze, brake fluid, waxes and polishes, automotive batteries.

4. Cleaners:
Bleach, spot removers, oven cleaners, polishes, disinfectants, rug and toilet cleaners.

5. Miscellaneous:
Fluorescent bulbs (including compact fluorescent bulbs (CFL), mercury switches or thermostats, poisons, pool chemicals, propane tanks up to 20 lbs., old chemistry sets, kerosene, dyes, non-alkaline batteries.

Please Do NOT Bring:
Explosives or ammunition
Asbestos
Medical waste or syringes
Radioactive materials
Prescription or narcotic drugs
Cathode Ray Tubes (TV's, computer monitors)
Water-based paints
Smoke detectors
Alkaline batteries

Save the Town money and combine waste with your neighbors to reduce the number of trips to the Minuteman Household Hazardous Waste site .  The town is billed on a per car basis.

Mercury thermometers, thermostats and button batteries can be brought to the DPW office in the Town Hall Annex or DPW office at 51 Grove Street. You can view office hours here.

Fluorescent bulbs can be brought to Wanamaker Hardware store on Mass Ave in the Heights or Shattucks Hardware on Mill Street.

Waste oil can be returned to the place of purchase.

Smoke detectors may be put into regular trash.
