The Lexington Arts and Crafts Society is proud to present a special exhibit of the Work and Collections of longtime members Marjorie and Joseph Weerts.  This is a rare opportunity for the public to view this excellent collection of contemporary basketry, Native American baskets and wood along with the beautiful and creative artistry of their own work.

Joe loved working with wood for many years starting with simple shelves, then tables and then proceeded to make beds and dining tables for their children when the set up housekeeping.  When he got older he was introduced to the Society by friend and member, Molly Nye.  There he took up wood turning.  He traveled with Woodworker, Warren Woodford to learn many techniques from master turners.  He started making small, round covered lidded boxes which became favorites at the Annual Fair and Holiday Marketplace.  He is honored by the Society as an Honorary Member.

Marge became interested in basketry about 25 years ago and has taken classes with Judy Olney at DeCordova.  She, along with Crystal Ribich, started the Basketry Guild 11 years ago and continued learning the craft.
