Lexington Reads 2011: Community Poetry Reading

Back in April 2007, the highlight of that year's “Lexington Reads Poetry” celebration was an evening of community poetry reading. This year, Cary Library would like to repeat this meaningful and popular program, while focusing on the theme: “Let Nature Be Our Teacher.”

Do you have a favorite poem that speaks to the beauty and wonder of nature? Cary Library is asking library users of all ages to share their favorite nature poems. Selected poems will be read by the people who submitted them at the Community Poetry Reading, and poems will be displayed in a special notebook at the Library.

You may submit your favorite nature poem by filling out a form available at the Reference Desk or at the Library’s website http://www.carylibrary.org. The only rule is that the poem is not written by you, a friend, or a relative. Your selection should be a poem that you have read, perhaps many times, and to which you feel a personal attachment.

This special program will be hosted by Lexington poet Cammy Thomas. It is an evening for those who would like to share their poems by reading them aloud, as well as for those who would just like to listen. Join your friends and neighbors in a community celebration of poetry and nature!
