During Hollywood's golden age, nearly every city and town across the nation had its local movie palace. Whether an extravagant, neon-clad jewel, or a plain structure, the neighborhood theater was often a center of community life. Boston photographer Stefanie Klavens' interest in 20th-century popular culture led her to begin photographing these grand old picture houses over a decade ago. Her continuing photographic journey has taken her all over the country, and 20 of her images are featured in "The Art of the Movie Theater."
