Fall Stargazing Workshop with Dr. Josh Roth on Friday, October 16 from 6:30-8:30pm at Wright-Locke Farm (78 Ridge Street, Winchester, MA). Kids ages 8+ welcome with an adult attendee!
Farming in the suburbs? Stargazing in the city? Of course! In this hands-on workshop, hosted by former science journalist and research astronomer Dr. Joshua Roth, we’ll begin by watching dusk take over from day and look for the crescent Moon. We’ll then go into the 1827 Barn and learn how to find each season’s constellations using star wheels we’ll build ourselves. We’ll explore the fall Milky Way with the unaided eye and then with binoculars and small telescopes. Telescope-buying tips and myriad other resources will also be provided. Be sure to dress for the weather of the evening; we suggest planning for temperatures between 40-55 degrees F, so wearing warm layers is strongly urged (we’ll either be in the unheated 1827 Barn or outdoors for this workshop). Bring binoculars if you own them. We have lots of interactive activities planned, so come rain or shine!
