Jazz Festival Concert with Jiggs Whigham

The Jazz Festival Concert is the culmination of a LHS Jazz Week: an intensive series of workshops and clinics with this year’s guest artist, the American trombonist, Jiggs Whigham.  The concert will feature the Jazz Septet, Jazz Combo, Jazz Big Band and Jazz Ensemble.  This is a rare opportunity to see LHS students playing with one of the world’s great musicians after a week of  learning and collaboration in the intimate setting of the high school’s auditorium. This is a unique concert not to be missed by the community and students—whether or they are musicians, jazz lovers or new to the form.

Jiggs Whigham began his career at 17 with The Glenn Miller/Ray McKinley orchestra and then proceeded to tour with Stan Kenton. Mr. Whigham is a visiting tutor and artist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He has been musical director of the RIAS (Radio In The American Sector) Big Band in Germany and is currently conductor of the BBC Big Band in Great Britain and artistic director of the Berlin Jazz Orchestra.

Ticket Price: $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors
