Lexington Community Education Presents Against Football with Steve Almond

Against Football: Steve Almond Tackles America' s Biggest Sacred Cow. Thursday, October 23rd, from 7:00-8:30pm

After four decades as a devout football fan, New York Times bestselling author Steve Almond quit watching. Join him for a freewheeling evening of discourse as Almond discusses the game’s allure and its moral hazards, the manner in which he believes it fosters a tolerance for violence, greed, racism, homophobia, and militarism. There will be plenty of time for questions and conversation. Expect an evening of volatile discussion about athletic greatness, masculinity, and the national soul.

Steve Almond was raised in Palo Alto, California, and was a newspaper reporter in Texas and Florida before writing his first book, the story collection My Life in Heavy Metal. His second book, Candy Freak, was a New York Times bestseller. His short fiction has been included in The Best American Short Stories and Pushcart Prize anthologies, and he writes commentary and journalism regularly for The New York Times, The Boston Globe, and The Los Angeles Times. Almond lives outside Boston with his wife and three children.

This evening’s event will be held on Thursday, October 23rd from 7-8:30pm at the Lexington Depot, 13 Depot Square. The cost is $10.00 per person. Pre-registration required. To register, using a VISA or MasterCard, please contact Lexington Community Education at 781 862 8043.
