LEXINGTON COMMUNITY EDUCATION presents A Tribute to Thelonious Monk
A Lecture and Recital featuring Pianist Lewis Porter & Dave Liebman on Saxophone on Monday, October 20th

Thelonious Monk is revered as a genius of modern jazz. His compositions are quirky, hard swinging, brilliantly logical, and unforgettable. The legendary Dave Liebman on saxophone and Lewis Porter on piano will present their original interpretations of some of the most exciting works of Monk. They will also share their thoughts on the music, and will answer your questions. This is an evening not to be missed!
David Liebman is considered a renaissance man in contemporary music with a career stretching over forty years. He has played with many of the masters including Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Chick Corea, John McLaughlin, McCoy Tyner and others. He has authored books and instructional DVDs; recorded as a leader in styles ranging from classical to rock to free jazz; and received numerous awards in the field of Jazz.
Lewis Porter, Ph.D, long known as a jazz educator and author of books including the celebrated and definitive volume John Coltrane: His Life and Music, is active as a jazz pianist, keyboardist and composer. Known for a free and open attitude, he contributes to many types of musical situations. Dr. Porter has appeared in concert internationally with such masters as Joe Lovano, Ravi Coltrane, Jeff Coffin, Jane Ira Bloom, Wycliffe Gordon, and many others. He has recorded thirteen CDs.

The event will be held on October 20th from 8:00-9:30pm at the Follen Church Society, 755 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington. The cost is $10.00. Pre-registration, using a MasterCard or VISA, is required. To register please contact Lexington Community Education at 781 862 8043.
