We're asking residents to make a long-term commitment to managing water resources more wisely by committing to a few (or all) of the pledges as perscribed by the Challenge. Some of those pledges include:
- Turning off sprinklers when it rains
- Shortening your shower time, use low-flow devices and turn off the tap
- Washing only full loads of laundry and dishes
- Powering down to save electricity
You can make these pledges at MyWaterPledge.com

August is Water Quality Month, and the Challenge is a great way to encourage the adoption of water-wise habits.
Last year, residents across all 50 U.S. states pledged to reduce their annual consumption of freshwater by 3 billion gallons, reduce waste sent to landfills by 80 million pounds, and prevent more than 179,000 pounds of hazardous waste from entering our watersheds.
“Lexington has long been a leader when it comes to taking action to preserve the environment,” said Town Manager James Malloy. “I encourage everyone to take part in this Challenge and pledge to conserve more water,” he added.
About the Challenge
To participate, residents can go to MyWaterPledge.com, and then make a series of online pledges to conserve water on behalf of Lexington.
Cities and Towns compete in the following population categories: (5,000- 29,999 residents, 30,000-99,999 residents, 100,000-299,999 residents, 300,000-599,999 residents, and 600,000+ residents). Residents can save money, help meet community conservation goals, discover water-related issues affecting the region — and earn a chance to win water-saving prizes. In addition, residents can nominate a deserving charity from the community to receive a 2020 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Students and teachers are encouraged to take part, as well.
