Lexington Makes Patriots' Day Virtual

Social distancing forced Lexington officials to get creative in their Patriots' Day event planning.

LEXINGTON, MA — The new coronavirus and social distancing measures have canceled and made community events near impossible, but Lexington is holding onto Patriots' Day with a few tweaks. This year's Patriots' Day is totally virtual and full of events residents can take part in right from home.

The Lexington Historical Society, the Munroe Center for the Arts and LexMedia collaborated to bring the traditional Patriots' Day to residents as best they could. The usual events like the reenactment of the Battle of Lexington and the Patriots' Day Parade will be streamed online. Residents will be able to view last year's reenactment, in lieu of gathering people to perform one this year. The show starts bright and early at 5:30 a.m. kicking off the Patriots' Day events.

The Munroe Center for the Arts has been busy collecting submissions from local families to create a virtual parade. Starting at 2 p.m., LexMedia will broadcast the parade. Residents can walk by the Munroe Center as many of the floats will be displayed on their lawn starting on April 19th.
