Lexington Public Schools Investigating Racist Social Media Posts
Superintendent Julie Hackett said posts containing racially offensive language have been circulating among students.
LEXINGTON, MA — School officials in Lexington are investigating social media posts that used racist language. Superintendent Julie Hackett said administrators are aware of social media posts circulating among students that contained racially offensive language.
Officials believe the communications happened outside of school on Snapchat and Instagram.
"Consistent with our established practice, we have reported these issues to the Lexington Human Rights Commission and the Lexington Police Department," Hackett said in a statement. "Whether unfortunate events like this occur inside or outside of school, we recognize that it's always our responsibility as a school system - and as a community for that matter - to educate our young people about the damage that words can do to others. We will continue to reinforce to all members of our school community the importance of treating one another with dignity and respect."
