Lexington Is Ranked 2nd Best Small City In America

Lexington is no Princeton, N.J., which ranked number one in the Wallet Hub surve, but it's not too shabby of a place to live, work and play.

LEXINGTON, MA -- Good schools and access to high-quality healthcare were two of that factors that led to Lexington's jump from 37th to 2nd in WalletHub's annual survey of the best small cities in America. The survey ranked 1,200 U.S> cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 by looking at 33 key indicators, ranging from economy to safety to restaurants per capita.

Other Bay State cities on the list included Milton (#4), Needham (#8), Newton (#11) and Melrose (#12). Tops on the list was Princeton, N.J.

The list comes as real estate prices in urban areas skyrocket and as once bleak inner city neighborhood gentrify. But WalletHub notes that even as more people move to big cities, smaller towns are often more affordable and offer more flexibility.
