Lexington's 300th: Get to Know a Featured Quilter

Nancy Kocher began quilting about 10 years ago, preferring traditional patterns and making everything from pillows, baby quilts, wall hanging, lap quilts and king-sized quilts. She is among the patchwork pillow makers whose products will be for sale at Lexington's Country Fair, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, as part of the opening day festivities of the nine-month celebration of Lexington's 300 years of incorporation.

The pillows will be among many items for sale or raffle in the handcraft section of the tent in Hastings Park. Activities that range from old-fashioned colonial field games to more modern contests, many of them on the fields at Hayden Recreation Center.

Kocher has tried other forms of needlework, but found they made her tense, while quilting is relaxing and allows her more creativity.  She likes seeing how the same pattern looks entirely differently with different fabrics and how colors blend or spark each other.

The retired teacher chose red, white and blue fabrics for her 300th pillows.
