Lexington's First Sustainability Director Begins Work

We are proud to announce the appointment of Stella Carr as the Town’s first Sustainability Director. Working in the Town Manager’s Office, Stella began work on June 1.

In this role, Stella is tasked with leading the Town’s sustainability efforts. She will build on the progress of existing sustainability initiatives underway, while developing and administering new programs, policies and initiatives to achieve the Town’s sustainability goals.

Her efforts will seek to find solutions to our community’s most challenging issues surrounding climate change. These include climate adaptation, resiliency, waste reduction, and energy efficiency, among others.

“We are excited to have Stella join us as Lexington’s first Sustainability Director,” said Town Manager James Malloy. “Her enthusiasm and expertise in the areas of sustainability and local government will be an asset as we address the threats of climate change locally,” he added.

“I’m excited to be the first person to serve in this important role,” said Sustainability Director Stella Carr. “I’m looking forward to working cross-departmentally to find innovative approaches for meeting our sustainability goals and expanding on Lexington’s proven track record of leadership in this area,” she added.

Prior to coming to Lexington, Stella worked in a number of roles, including the Office of Sustainability at Northern Arizona University; City of Tempe, Arizona Water Department; and as the Marvin Andrew’s Management Fellow for the City of Chandler, Arizona.

Stella holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental sustainability from Northern Arizona University, and a master’s degree in public administration from Arizona State University.
