LHS Boys Tennis Sweeps Watertown in Raiders' Final Game

Minutemen move forward with individual competitions.

It was a simple sweep for Lexington High School's boys tennis team, which on Friday beat Watertown High School 5-0 in four matches and a default, furthering the Minutemen’s undefeated 15-0 season.

“It’s Watertown, they’re lower half of the league,” said LHS coach Chris Pugliese.

The games were quick one, two, three singles matches.

David Herrera defeated Watertown’s Jake Hellman 6-0, 6-0. Harry Nichols won 6-0, 6-0 against Aaron Siegel. And David Seong beat Kevin Michaud, 6-0, 6-0.

Ben Feifke and Andrew Shan rounded out the meeting in the final game, first doubles, taking down Watertown’s Will Pennington and Shayan Avanesian, 6-4, 6-0.

“(Herrera is) my third singles player, (Nichols is) my second doubles player, (Seong is) JV, (Feifke and  Shan) are JV," said Pugliese. "So it’s kind of just a match where I can get a bunch of reserves in and get some playing time for them.”

Pugliese said he wasn’t worried about the meet with Watertown, so he rested his varsity players, as this coming weekend the Minutemen move forward with their season into individual competitions.

The Minutemen moved on from Friday’s win to face individual competition this weekend, with the match against Watertown serving as preparation and practice.

“(We) take it one match at a time,” Pugliese said Friday.“We’ve had matches. So their practice is their match. They played yesterday, some of them will do a tennis lesson or go somewhere and hit, but other than that, they kind of just prepare themselves.

“For individuals it’s more of an individual thing. So it’s really who can go the farthest.”

Next up for the Minutemen, the team plays at Melrose High School on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
