LHS Teams Complete Busy Tournament Weekend
Softball, girls' tennis advance; boys' and girls' lacrosse eliminated.
Lexington High School teams posted mixed results over a weekend filled with state tournament contests. The softball and girls' tennis teams advanced in the postseason, while both the boys' and girls' lacrosse teams closed out their years with losses.
The softball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) North Division I tournament with a 5-1 win over Boston Latin in the first round on Saturday. Twelfth-seeded Lexington (13-8) will continue play Tuesday at Newton North High.
The same day, Lexington's boys' lacrosse team (13-8) was eliminated from the postseason with a 12-10 loss to Barnstable in the first round of the East Division I tournament.

On Friday, the girls' lacrosse team was ousted from the North Division I quarterfinals with a 20-16 loss to top-seeded Framingham High. The Minutemen end the season with a 15-6-1 record.
Also Friday, Lexington's girls' tennis team (15-5) defeated Central Catholic 3-2 in the North Division I first round. The No. 9 Minutemen advance to play No. 1 Andover in the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

Several Lexington track and field athletes competed at the All-State Meet at Westfield State College on Saturday. Senior Andrew Herring was 17th in the 2-mile run (9 minutes, 53.85 seconds), senior Matt Hunter was 23rd in the 110 hurdles (17.5 seconds) and senior Myles Adley was 22nd in the javelin throw (138 feet, 8 inches).
The Minutemen had a sixth-place showing in the girls' 4x400 relay with a time of 3:58.72. The three points placed Lexington tied for 56th in the team scoring.
Lexington's boys' tennis team opens its postseason today with the North Division I quarterfinals. After a first-round bye, the second-seeded Minutemen (20-0) host No. 7 St. John's Prep (14-5).
