Minuteman High School in Lexington Debuts New Online Admissions Link and Recruitment Video

These will attract applicants, improve the application process and help to get the word out about Minuteman

By Judy Bass

Minuteman High School in Lexington recently debuted a new online admissions link and recruitment video to attract applicants, improve the application process and inform interested students and their families about the educational opportunities available at the school.

Minuteman’s Assistant Principal / Admissions Director George M. Clement said that “the real driver” behind the implementation of the online admissions link was convenience for parents, along with an enhanced capability to keep in touch with them and get the word out about what is happening at the school.

The link can be accessed by going to the admissions tab at www.minuteman.org.

The software for the link was developed at another technical high school, Southeastern Regional in Easton, and shared with Minuteman.

“It provides two-way communication” through a paperless process, Clement noted. With plans moving forward for a new, state-of-the-art Minuteman High School building showcasing the latest technology, he observed that this link is “a step in that direction to prepare us for that eventuality.”

The documentary-style video, which is also on the Minuteman web site, is just under five minutes long and features current students discussing their experience at the school, why they chose Minuteman, describing projects they worked on in class and in the field, and mentioning their plans for college.

“I chose Minuteman because I am a hands-on learner,” says one student. Another points out that “Minuteman is the high school of the future.”

Created by Andrew Mudge of Black Kettle Films in Cambridge, the video is shown to students at in-district middle schools when Minuteman personnel visit to tell them about the benefits of a Minuteman education from a student perspective.

The Minuteman district includes 16 member communities: Acton, Arlington, Belmont, Bolton, Boxborough, Carlisle, Concord, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Lincoln, Needham, Stow, Sudbury, Wayland, and Weston.

“The video has a certain elegance that speaks to the communities we serve,” Clement said. “We are offering a competitive advantage to students – robust academics and powerful career and technical skills. We prepare them for college and careers.”

He added, “We’re looking for the right student in the right program for the right reasons. That’s who we’re trying to attract.”

Minuteman is an award-winning regional high school that provides students with a high-quality career and technical education, coupled with a thorough grounding in mathematics, English, science, and social studies. Students can select from more than one dozen career and technical education programs and a challenging academic curriculum, including Advanced Placement courses. Typically, more than 60 per cent of the school’s graduates pursue college or advanced technical training.
