MTI’s Advanced Manufacturing program (900 hours) is the newest program at Minuteman with cutting-edge technology and advanced computerized machinery, equipment and technology. This program runs from October 1, 2018 to August 15, 2019. It is taught four nights per week, five and a half hours per night, or twenty-two hours per week. Students enrolled in Advanced Manufacturing will be trained on cutting edge technology and advanced computerized machinery to improve product manufacturing. Students will learn the layout process, the setup and procedures necessary to operate equipment such as CNC lathes, CNC milling and turning machines. They will also gain experience taking a product from conception to manufacturing using innovative CAD/CAM software. They will receive training and certifications from NIMS (National Institute for Metalworking Skills, Inc.), as well as OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) 10-hour certification and CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification.
The increased adoption of sophisticated manufacturing machinery will require more mechanics and millwrights to keep machines in good working order. Increased automation, including the use of many computer-controlled machines in factories and manufacturing plants, should raise the demand for machinery maintenance workers in order to keep the machines functioning properly.
Possible career pathways are CNC Machinist, CNC Operator, CNC Programmer, CNC Set-up Technician, Quality Control & Inspection (Clean Manufacturing), Machine Repair Technician, Milling and Lathe Set-up Technicians, Jig & Fixture Maker, Electrical and Electronic Equipment Assemblers, Research and Development, Entrepreneur / Inventor, Tool & Die Maker, Mold Maker and Metal and Plastic Workers.
Tuition for Advanced Manufacturing for Massachusetts residents is $13,594. Tuition for Advanced Manufacturing students who live in the Minuteman district, including the towns of Acton, Arlington, Belmont, Bolton, Concord, Dover, Lancaster, Lexington, Needham and Stow, is $11,520. Tuition for out-of-state residents is $13,824. Payment plans are available. There is also a materials fee of $1,000.
